Parenthood Season 3 Episode 1 Recap – ‘I Don’t Want to Do This Without You’

I’m still struggling to find time to update Mean and Massive. I’ve decided to try and cut my episode reviews short (not that I wrote 2000-words articles before) – so this might help me to cover as many TV shows as I want. The fall season is here, and there are too many series to cover.

Parenthood season 3 premiere

In many aspects, all is still the same. We pick up from where we left the characters in the season 2 finale episode. We jumped about half a year, roughly calculated using the pregnant belly of Christina. Adam is still looking for a job, Julia still wants to adopt (and it is still her thing more than her husband’s), and Amber is still driving Sarah crazy.

The premiere episode focused on showing us where the characters are, and celebrating Sarah’s 40th birthday. Somehow all those moments that are supposed to be a symbol for togetherness turn out lonely and dark. Parenthood, dark? Maybe it’s too early to say, but I feel that the third season is going to be slightly different in tone from thefirst two (it’s also the firstseason that is not based on the movie bythe same name).

Amber and Sarah are only the first example of separation. Crosby learns that Jasmin is dating other people (while she tells him to be more careful with the women he chooses as ‘special friends’, not to confuse Jebbar – Crosby is getting a lecture in almost every scene he’s in, beit from his ex or his brother). And pregnancy seems like a mother-thing, with Julia’s hunt for a kid to adopt and the big belly of Christina.

Alex is taken by the police, after he tried to bring back drunk Haley from a party, and finds himself punching the host. I was almost surprised see them still together this season, but the party scene was even a bigger surprise.
