Misfits Season 1 episode guide

Episode One

Kelly, Alisha, Curtis and Simon are still grieving over Nathan’s death when a mysterious masked man, ‘Superhoodie’ throws a paper aeroplane at Kelly, containing a note advising her to “go to his grave”. The Misfits therefore visit Nathan’s grave, where Kelly can hear Nathan’s thoughts and the group dig him up.

Meanwhile back at the community centre, with their previous probation officer, Sally presumed missing, Shaun takes over her duties. An art therapy class for the mentally ill is taking place and one of the patients, Lucy appears to be obsessed with Simon (it turns out that Simon was once in the same mental institution as Lucy.) Lucy’s storm-based powers means that she has the ability to shape-shift and she causes a lot of confusion between the group as she morphs into most of their forms and attempts to drive them away from Simon. Whilst imitating Kelly, Lucy hits Curtis over the head with a baseball bat and attempts to suffocate him with a plastic bag but luckily Superhoodie arrives just in time to rescue Curtis and then disappears again. Lucy shape-shifts back into herself and tells Simon that she plans to take his form and confess to the police that he killed Sally so that they can be reunited in ‘the unit’. Simon manages to dissuade her and apologises for ignoring her.

The episode ends with the whole gang dumping Sally’s body in the middle of the lake in front of the community centre and discussing the identity of Curtis’ saviour.

Episode Two

Nathan learns that he has a half-brother named Jamie. Nathan and Jamie go for a drink, where Nathan meets a young bartender named Lily who has the ability to create ice. As Nathan and Jamie leave the pub, Jamie realises his car is missing and he reveals that he left their father tied up in the boot with the intention of forcing him to meet with Jamie’s abandoned mother. Jamie and Nathan manage to retrieve the car and their father from a group of youths.

Jamie, Nathan and the rest of the gang then go to a nightclub and Nathan brings the bartender, Lily along. They all take pills, including Simon whose drink is spiked by Jamie, but the drugs reverse all their powers – Kelly verbalises every thought she has, Simon becomes the centre of attention, Alisha is repulsive to others and Nathan may be temporarily mortal. Curtis has a ‘flash forward’ in which he is standing on a rooftop dressed as a superhero and begins kissing an unfamiliar young woman, with whom he seems to have a relationship.

Jamie and Lily leave to have sex in the car, but her freezing power also reverses and she bursts into flames. Nathan runs to the car to try and save Jamie, but Superhoodie stops him just in time before the car explodes. Nathan then discovers Jamie unharmed standing on the other side of the car. Jamie tells Nathan that he wants to sort things out with their dad and convinces Nathan to come along with him, but when they see their dad, he tells Nathan that Jamie died in the car fire meaning that Nathan’s power also allows him to see dead people. ‘Dead’ Jamie urges Nathan to reconcile things with their father and Nathan sees him one last time, disappearing with his arm around Lily.

Meanwhile, Simon takes the group to the apartment that he followed Superhoodie back to after the car explosion, and it turns out to belong to the woman Curtis saw in his flash forward.

Episode Three

Alisha is rescued by Superhoodie from a mugging on her way home and is surprised to find out that he can touch her skin without being affected by her power. She decides to find out more about him and deliberately gets herself into a dangerous situation, hoping to be rescued once more. This time she wakes up in Superhoodie’s mysterious den, where she discovers he is in fact Simon from the future. He is remarkably different from the present day Simon and tells Alisha he is there to make sure that certain events stay the way they were intended, and that one day, him and Alisha will fall in love. Although they have sex, future Simon makes Alisha promise to stay with Curtis until present Simon is ready and also makes her promise not to tell anyone about his true identity.

Meanwhile, Curtis goes to visit the woman he saw in his future, Nikki and finds her breathing from a medical oxygen cylinder as she needs a heart transplant.

Nathan and Simon go with Kelly to a tattoo parlour where Nathan offends the tattooist, Vince. Vince causes a pain in Nathan’s shoulder, which goes unnoticed, but once back at the community centre, Nathan tries to seduce Simon and Kelly notices a tattoo of Simon’s name on Nathan’s shoulder. Kelly returns to the tattoo parlour to confront Vince and he uses his power to tattoo a heart containing his name on her back, which apparently forces her to love him.

Present Simon deduces that Vince is responsible for his friends’ strange behaviour, and the whole gang return to the tattoo parlour where Vince uses his power to stab Curtis and strangle Simon. However Simon has worked out that Vince has a nut allergy and he manages to throw a nut into Vince’s mouth from a packet of peanuts thrown to him earlier by Superhoodie, causing Vince to release them all from his power.

Episode Four

The group are joined on their community service by a boy named Ollie, who reveals that he can teleport. While out picking up litter, they are accosted by a deranged man called Tim, who believes he is the protagonist of a violent video game, seeking revenge against a crime boss named Conti, who has supposedly stolen his money. Tim shoots Ollie dead but the rest of the Misfits manage to escape unharmed. Ollie turns out to be an organ donor and his heart is transplanted into Nikki, who finds out she has inherited his power.

Curtis and Alisha decide to finish their relationship, with him thinking of Nikki, and her of Simon. Alisha goes to see future Simon, and tells him that she and Curtis are over. She expresses her wish to run away somewhere with him, and says she’s always wanted to go to Las Vegas and Simon promises to take her there.

Kelly is then taken hostage by Tim and when the rest of the group play the video game that Tim thinks he is in, they conclude that if they follow it’s plot, the game will end and Tim will leave them alone. The group therefore rob a bank to acquire the £100,000 that Tim wants from Conti by stealing their probation worker’s car and using an invisible Simon to take the money undetected. They deliver the money to Tim, which ‘completes’ his current level in the game, and he progresses onto the next, in which he is now looking for an undercover cop amongst the group. He therefore takes all of them hostage and threatens to kill them if the undercover cop doesn’t confess. Tim decides to kill Alisha first, but Curtis kicks Tim in the face and while he is distracted, Alisha tries to escape, but Tim catches up with her. He shoots her, but future Simon drops down from a skylight and the bullet hits him instead. Future Simon tells Tim he is the undercover cop, thus ending Tim’s game.

Alisha tells the dying Simon that she loves him and tries to call an ambulance, but Simon stops her. He explains it has to be like this so that the present Simon and her can get together as it’s Alisha falling in love with him that makes present Simon become him in the future. He instructs her to burn his body so no one finds out about him, and then he dies. Alisha tries to talk to present Simon, but can’t so goes to future Simon’s lair where she discovers a photo showing her and Simon together in Las Vegas.

Episode Five

At the beginning of this episode, Nathan accidentally walks in on a girl changing in the locker room of the community centre, and the next thing he knows he is brutally beaten to death. He tells Alisha and Simon the next day that he suspects he was killed by the girl from the locker room, who it turns out is Jessica, a charity worker helping out at the community centre. Later Nathan watches Jessica rebuff the advances of another boy. She runs off and the boy chases after her so Nathan follows and is shocked when he discovers the boy dead. Jessica seems to have targeted Simon as her next victim and invites everyone to a charity fancy dress party. At the party Simon and Jessica kiss in the locker room but they’re interrupted by her dad, Dave. It transpires that Jessica’s dad is in fact the killer when he mistakes Simon for a boy in a matching costume and stabs him to death. Meanwhile Simon and Jessica lose their virginities to each other. Alisha discovers the body of the boy Jessica’s dad killed and starts looking for Simon, but Jessica’s dad finds him first. He is about to kill Simon when Alisha saves his life by knocking Jessica’s dad unconscious with a fire extinguisher.

The other main storyline in episode five revolves around Kelly’s love life when she meets Bruno, a young man on the run from the police. Kelly and Bruno have ‘rough’ sex in the flat he is squatting in and he later turns up at the fancy dress party in a gorilla’s costume. The police gatecrash the party and whilst Kelly and Bruno are trying to escape, Bruno scales a building with Kelly on his back. They are cornered by the police on the roof and Bruno is shot. Kelly tries to remove his mask only to find that he is in fact a real gorilla, who was changed into a human by the storm.

Episode Six

Shaun, the group’s probation worker, tells the media about the Misfits’ super powers and they instantly become famous and are known as the ‘ASBO Five’. A PR guru called Laura offers to help them and she settles the gang in a luxury hotel, where Brian, a cafe worker, who has gained the ability to manipulate dairy products, is also staying. Brian begins to feel resentment and rejection, as public interest in him is lost in favour of the others and their superior powers. When Brian’s girlfriend insults his power, he kills her by manipulating the Greek yoghurt inside her, causing it to rise, and block up her insides. When Laura admits she doesn’t have time to represent Brian anymore, he also kills her. Brian then kills Kelly, and captures Alisha. Nikki unintentionally teleports to the hotel and into Brian’s room, where Alisha is bound and gagged with plastic clingfilm, and he kills them both. Brian then uses his power on Nathan but as he cannot kill him, it leaves Nathan brain dead. Brian tries to stab Curtis but he is lactose intolerant, so Brian’s power is ineffective, but instead he stabs Simon, who was invisibly standing between them at the time. A dying Simon tells Curtis that they are all dead, and therefore he must rewind time and set things right. With this knowledge, Curtis is able to rewind the clock so that the group can visit Brian and stop him from going on his killing spree.

The other notable development in episode six is that Simon hears (while invisible) Alisha talking about things that the future Simon has said to her, and decides to follow her. She goes to future Simon’s lair, and he is shocked to see all the photos on the wall. Alisha lies on the bed and removes the photo of her and Simon in Las Vegas from her purse. Simon sees this, turns visible and demands to know the truth, and Alisha has no choice but to tell him about his future self.

Episode Seven – Christmas Special

Three months have passed and the Misfits have all finished their community service and are stuck in dead-end jobs. Alisha notices a poster advertising ‘Cash Paid for Powers’, so she meets Seth, who has the ability to remove and harness super-powers, although he cannot use them himself. Seth buys powers, and deals them out to anybody who can afford them. Desperate to be rid of it, Alisha lets Seth take her power for free.

Elliot, a disillusioned priest, also visits Seth and buys some super-powers that will allow him to pass himself off as Jesus and he stuns onlookers when he walks on water. Elliot is preaching to his followers, when a robber, Luke, tries to steal the donation box. Elliot uses telekinesis to levitate the gun away from Luke, who in turn agrees to worship him.

Meanwhile, Nathan meets a pregnant girl named Marnie at the community centre. They instantly bond and Nathan tells hers he wants to be there for her and the baby. When Simon tells Nathan how Alisha sold her power, this prompts Nathan to visit Seth and sell his immortality, for which he gets paid £2,000 and gives the money to Marnie.

Alisha tells Curtis, Nikki and Kelly about Seth, and they all happily sell their powers for £20,000 each. Simon is at first reluctant, but Alisha, wishing for them to be a normal couple, convinces him by lying that his future self told her they should sell their powers.

The priest, Elliot continues to buy powers using the money he has conned out of his followers but it is not enough so he orders Luke to go out and steal all the money he can. Luke goes to the bar where Curtis and Alisha work, and forces the gang to hand over the money. Nikki is accidentally shot and killed during the ordeal which makes the gang realize how important their powers are to them, but when they go back to Seth and demand them back, he tells them must each pay £40,000.

The next day, Elliot reveals to Alisha that he has bought her power and tries to use it on her. Fortunately, Luke arrives to tell Elliot how he killed Nikki, and Alisha manages to run away. When she tells the gang about Elliot, they track him down but when they try to attack him, he uses Nikki’s power to teleport away. The gang then take Elliot’s locker, which is filled with money, in order to buy back their powers. Elliot attempts to stop them, and uses telekenisis to pull the locker away, but it instead darts toward him and hits him in the head, killing him. With the locker full of money, the gang revisit Seth, who tells them that they can choose whatever powers he has left. Kelly volunteers to go first, and the series ends as Seth gives her a power.
