Episodes Season 2 Episode 7 Recap – ‘Episode 7′
Fat people on American TV, now here’s an issue that can be the subject for a book, or of an episode on Episodes. When the network says Matt is too fat, it gets him so down, until he’s doing something that may puts everything – his relationship with Jaime and his show- in danger. A great episode that uses the material from this season to hints the coming catastrophe, with just 2 episodes left for this season. My episode review follows…
What just happened (episode summary): Beverly dates Rob; Matt doesn’t handle good the network’s criticism on his weight; Jaime and Matt fight, and he invites his stalker to comfort him.
How it happened (the chatty TV critic): Merc and Carol asking the screenwriters again for a favor – to tell their star that he’s gained a little weight. Matt doesn’t respond too well, and he doesn’t have the sense of humor to help him deal with it. His blind girlfriend cannot help him feel better about this, and he cannot control his temper. They have a big fight, and she leaves, telling him to call her when he’s better.
But he doesn’t. After a blog calls him “Matt LeBlob” he’s getting so depressed that all he can do is eat a cake, drink too much alone at home, and call his stalker Labia.
This plot line was good enough in the sense that it showed us a side of Matt we didn’t see yet – the sad, destructive side of Matt LeBlanc’s character. And it’s going to cause everyone big problems in the next two episodes. I didn’t care much that Matt didn’t look fat, it wasn’t important. Together with the chick incident of Morning from the last couple of episodes, the whole ‘appearance is everything’ theme worked well for me.
The second plot line was Bev moving forward. She agrees to a date with Morning’s brother, and when she tells Carol she’s horrible in dating, it’s an understatement. But even if it’s awkward, including another meeting with their ex-assistant (I wonder what will happen with him at the end of the season – the symbol of quick success) and a phone call from Sean on the speaker, there will be a second date.
What are we left with: The stalker can’t be a good thing – when this will come out then Jaime will probably leave Matt (he mentioned in the beginning of the episode that his wife divorced him because he was cheating on her) – and if Merc will find out then the show is in danger. Bev is now starting something new, but can she really?
