Eastbound & Down Marathon: Season 2 Episodes 6 and 7 Recap

In the last two chapters of season 2, Eastbound brought Kenny Powers back home. It took Kenny a full 360 degrees adventure to realize he already has what he wants. He also said something similar on his recordings, although the use of Kenny’s recordings in season 2 was not as good as in season 1. The difference reflects tha change in Kenny’s vision: in season 1 he’s deep in his past of fame and success, listening to his set of self-help tapes. In season 2, having to face with the present, Kenny does not listen- he speaks.

Back to the plot of the two episodes, Kenny finds a way out of Mexico – and is finding a place in the minor league in Myrtle Beach. Stevie is getting married to Maria, and although it depresses Kenny, he sneaks Maria in his jeep on their way back to Shelby, USA. Finally he’s a celeb again. Back in Shelby, April is indeed not married, but is pregnant. At the end of the season’s finale Kenny learns that the baby is his. Kenny and April drive in two separate cars to have a coffee together.

What is so good about Eastbound & Down, and what is also very unique about it, is its honesty. This is a show that won’t feed you crap, it respects its viewers. No other show has so much sexism and racism present in such honesty, and this is possible thanks to the accurate editing and the excellent work Gordon-Green does. See you at Myrtle Beach.
